Join Black Futures artist Susana Arenas Pedroso for a special demonstration of the religion and spirituality of Cuban culture and its ancestral wisdom at the
Bayview Opera House on June 10th, 2023.
This performance will offer a taste of the rich mixture of African, Spanish and Caribbean elements that make Cuba's vibrant culture. It will include a portrayal of some deities— their Batá drums, songs, and dances— in Cuban Santería, an amalgamation of Yoruba religion and Catholic practices, which are central to Cuban spiritual values, practices and artistic production. It will also present the popular Son, Chachachá, Comparsa, and Timba dances, which combine strong African rhythms, Spanish musical structures and instruments, and Cuba's unique flavor.
