Zaccho is situated in a primarily industrial area although the three story building it is in are all artist studio’s.

Who may apply?

The Somatic Module in the weekend format is open to any individual who desires more knowledge and experience of their own body and how one’s self can be more fully expressive. It is open to ALL AGES (20-ongoing) and ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE. MOC is committed to making this program available to a diverse population and encourages people of all cultural and social orientations to apply.
We do ask that people applying understand themselves to be mature adults, ready to be in a rigorous but supportive weekend intensives and understand how to conduct themselves emotionally. Although a compassionate and supportive teaching staff will be present, MOC is not responsible for therapuetic attending. We will be physically moving in space and on the floor at least 50% of the time although these classes are NOT “dance classes”, it involves moving the body.

Are there alternative study options?

Please see the Independent class listings.

Are there scholarships available?

Not at this time. Hopefully in the forthcoming years there will be more options available. We are constantly looking for sponsors and grants.

Are there pre-requisites?

A desire to learn through movement is the prime pre-requisite. Individual learning rhythms and paces are respected. Basic training in anatomy is provided and any learned anatomy or pre-study of basic anatomy is very helpful but not required.

Does the program require a lot of homework or reading?

The program is concentrated and intensive. This basic Somatics introduction and study will include several assignments, reading of articles from MOC’s required “Reader” (provided at the beginning of the module from MOC) and a final informal teaching project done in partners.

How is a student evaluated to receive the “Somatic Studies Certificate”?

Students need to be present for all four weekends, assignments finished (on time) and turned in after each weekend (if there are any hand-written assignments) and the final teaching project witnessed during the teaching projects time slots on the last weekend. Students assessment is also based on the students willingness to participate with curiosity, presence and ability to demonstrate skills they have learned with a degree of knowledge to be assessed by the teachers.

Does everyone have to aim for a Certificate?

You may be a part of the intensive without desiring a certificate. However we still require all students to be fully engaged.
NOTE: Students who receive the certificate are eligible to pursue the Dynamic Embodiement- Somatic Movement Therapy Training (DE-SMTT) on the east coast with Martha Eddy (co-founder of MOC). This 128 hours intensive provide the prerequisites for DE-SMTT.

How well do you need to speak English?

Students are required to be able to comprehend the English language enough to understand theory, write assignments with clarity and articulate their thoughts and processes to participate in discussions.

Can I get financial aid?

At this time, there is no financial aid provided by MOC or Zaccho. You are welcome to seek funding independently if you can.

How do students use this certificate?

MOC has no ties to any Universities to support credits. However, Universities have sometimes been willing to accept MOC’s studies as part of a person’s credits towards a Master’s. This is done outside of MOC’s admin. role and is the responsibility of the students to pursue. MOC will hand out paper certificates that acknowledge simply the 128 hours of study and participation through our program.
Integration of the studies in life: Given that this training supports the unfolding of each individual’s unique talents and skills, graduates are involved in diverse and unique employment. Students may return to the work they were doing previously with new verve and focus; massage technisions integrate more movement observation and repatterning awareness to their practice; dance administrators find new connections with community based on somatic work; poets write from a deeper bodily insight; choreographers and dance educators return to their creative endeavors with more anatomical knowledge and a larger philisophical context of the their work. Performers take a more sophisticated knowledge of the body into their absorption of movement forms and expressive qualities endure. Therapists learn to read their clients body to understand what the unconscious may be speaking through their bodies and not just their words and content:
Public speakers embody their intellectual presentation with fuller expression: Mothers/fathers have more tools to participate in their children’s psycho-physical development: everyone will learn more about their personal movement styles, preferences, alignment patterns and develop deeper awareness and connection to their psych-physical selves. Each person’s progress is completely unique to who and where they are.
Training at MOC could be the start of a whole new career or avocation! And some of you may feel so inspired by one of the Somatic Systems you learn about, you may want to continue your studies doing the full training in Body-Mind Centering, Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis, Axis Syllabus or Alexander Technique. The Somatics field is a bigger and bigger field of many Somatic Systems to engage and learn in. MOC provides a very solid foundation, with master teachers in the field, with which to understand Somatics and its implications.
