The Road to Carnaval

Join Black Futures Resident Artist Ramón Ramos Alayo for The Road to Carnaval , a celebration of Cuba’s carnival including a special conversation and free performance at Zaccho Studio on June 3rd from 6:30 to 8pm.

The Road to Carnaval is work based on the everyday traditions of the carnival in Cuba, carried out with one of the traditional dances that is the Conga. The Conga in Cuba happens once a year and it is the moment where the people can express their feelings, whether about the economy, politics, or love.

Ramón Ramos Alayo, Artistic Director and Co-founder of CubaCaribe and Alayo Dance Company, was selected by the Cuban government to study dance in Santiago de Cuba at age eleven. In 1990 he earned a master’s degree in contemporary and folkloric dance and dance education from Havana's National School of Art. A graduate of Havana’s National School of Art, specializing in folkloric and contemporary dance.
