40th Anniversary Season
In 2020 Zaccho Dance Theatre will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary. Since our founding in 1980, Zaccho has been an innovative force in both the world of dance and in our home community of Bayview Hunters Point, San Francisco’s African American Arts & Cultural District. Artistic Director Joanna Haigood and collaborators pursue unique and challenging visions of dance, including spectacular aerial choreography, evocative site-specific performances, and culturally significant subject matter. As a longstanding nonprofit program, we pride ourselves on maintaining our artistic integrity, social consciousness, and community involvement. Zaccho opens the door to creative expression for a diverse group of artists of international acclaim.

As part of our anniversary season, Zaccho will present Love, a state of grace at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral. At a time when places of worship in the United States have seen an alarming rise in violent attacks and vandalism, Love, a state of grace seeks to explore shared aspirations across faiths and cultures. This aerial performance installation will premiere on August 6 to 8, 2020.

Also in August, Zaccho will produce its biennial San Francisco Aerial Arts Festival, featuring local and international aerial artists at the top of their field. This biennial festival brings together spectacle, daring athleticism, aerial dance, and circus to create a dynamic three day performance event on August 14, 15 & 16, 2020.

Smaller events will occur throughout our year-long celebration, bringing together past collaborators, students, audiences, and supporters to share memories and to honor the legacy of this unique arts organization.

Join us in celebrating 40 amazing years by attending, participating, educating, and donating however you can.
